The members of the house are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing. They are keeping their promises to their constituents. Our Republic can only work as intended if our Representatives actually represent.
For far too long, politicians have said the words they needed to say to get elected, then gone to Washington and done whatever they want. Whatever gets them the most perks, power, and money, personally.
During the Health Care debate, there was no talk of compromise. Despite the fact that over 60% of Americans were against the bill, the Democrats pushed it through anyway, using questionable legislative maneuvers.
Today, 66% of Americans support the Cut, Cap, and Balance plan, and 75% support a Balanced Budget Amendment. Furthermore, this majority cuts across all demographics, and includes a majority of Democrats and self-identified liberals. The American people want the debt ceiling raised only if there are significant cuts to go with it. So far nothing but the CCB plan even takes a good first step.
If a bill cannot pass the House, it is not worthy too. If it cannot get enough support from a majority, it shouldn’t pass. HCR was done by twisting arms and buying votes, again, against the will of the majority of Americans. Is this the kind of government you want?
Representative government was designed so that the people have the power. So that they make their own decisions about what is best for their lives. In the leftist vision of America, our “betters” will make up our minds for us, and we don’t have to like it, we just have to take it. And if they line their pockets along the way, well, that is the price of having them make up our minds for us.  That was true of Health Care Reform and that is true today.
This debate is not just about government spending, it is about the question – Are we going to be a free people or sheep? Do we work for the government, or does government work for us?
